Both are excellent austenitic stainless steels, but they have key differences that can make or break your application. Let us dive deep into the comparison.

What is the Main Difference?

The primary difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel is molybdenum content:

  • 304 SS: No molybdenum added
  • 316 SS: 2-3% molybdenum added

This small addition makes 316 significantly more corrosion resistant, especially in chloride environments like seawater.
